The year everything changed

My story is that I’ve been a network marketing professional for over ten years, and as an entrepreneur, I’ve been at it full time since 2010.

My background before that was in medical sales, but it’s crazy how fast things can change in over a year.

The network marketing company I had been with was suddenly shutting down completely without any warning. I had about 30 days to evaluate what I was going to do.

I went to a different network marketing company for 5 months but they were also shut down. I was on my own again.

I wanted to take the information I have learned on my journey in business and get it out there into the world.

It was around this time that Periscope was becoming popular. I hopped onto it and started sharing with anyone who would join my feed.

I began doing a video every day and I started growing a small following. After several months, I realized I could monetize this audience into a business!

Now I’m focused on building online courses and coaching for business owners who want to leverage the power of video for their own marketing and social media.

One of the realizations I had in building my business was that I needed a home base. Social media is great, but you don’t actually own your list on those platforms, the owners of social platforms do.
At any minute they can lock you out from connecting with the audience you invested time and energy in building. I knew I needed a way to drive traffic back to my own site.

I began releasing video blog posts 3-4 times a week and then posting them on Facebook.

The holy grail of marketing

Sharable content is really the holy grail of online marketing in this era.

By giving every social media user the ability to choose what they want to amplify, the internet really has a way of democratizing what content is valuable and resonates with people.
This can expand your reach to thousands of new people who might become your new customers. This simple process of consistent uploading was great for building my brand and growing a community around my business.

I think everyone knows that on some level they need video in their business. Whether or not they’re ready to admit it is another story. For an entire year, I was procrastinating in uploading my first video. I was paralyzed by the fear of putting myself out there!
I doubted that I had anything worth sharing, but when I finally broke through the noise and started publishing videos I saw results right away.

My message to you if you’re feeling the same way I did, is that you too are incredibly powerful and have something worth sharing even if you might not think so at this moment.

Invest, learn, teach

I love how with video you can position yourself as an expert just based on video content you’ve consumed. You can make your videos about others’ videos that you’ve learned from. My mentor Ray Higdon calls it “invest, learn, teach.”

It’s important to source back your information, but there’s no reason why you can’t resupply it back into the market place.

Just getting started is the biggest lesson I can share. You won’t regret it a year from now!

Action Steps

  1. Drive your video traffic back to your website and provide them with a lead magnet opt-in so you can stay connected by collecting their email.
  2. Share video content to a social media platform of your choice 3-4 times a week.
  3. Teach your audience your best information even if it’s information you learned from somebody else. Remember to always give credit to your sources.
  4. Encourage your audience to subscribe, share, and join your list.
  5. Simply get started and stay consistent.

Result You Will Achieve

Grow your business dramatically by adding video to your content marketing mix.
